Athens — Once a year, volunteers from around the Cedar Creek Lake area walk the streets picking up trash that clutters the lake area as part of the Cedar Creek Cleanup.

This will be the 15th year Tarrant Regional Water District has hosted the cleanup event.  Groups from around the lake will once again be cleaning up the shores of Cedar Creek Lake.

This year’s Cedar Creek Cleanup will be on Saturday, Sept. 28 from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. If you choose to volunteer, your cleanup kit can be picked up at 5515 Ashby Lane in Trinidad, or the day of the event at Tom Finley Park on State Highway 334. in Gun Barrel City.

All volunteers will receive a T-shirt. The area of cleanup is up to the volunteers.  There will be volunteers on all highways around the lake,  as well as in the subdivisions where the volunteers  live.

Like in previous years, the cleanup area is not confined to one location. Participants are urged to pick a location of their choosing. The Texas Department of Transportation will be picking up trash bags in designated areas.

Following the cleanup, TRWD will host an appreciation picnic from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Tom Finley Park. Radio Disney and Carter BloodCare will be among the vendors in attendance.

Sponsors of the event include Environmental Co-Op, Cedar Creek Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, Texas Department of Transpo-rtation, Henderson County Precinct 1 and 2, Athens Daily Review, The Monitor, Keep Texas Beautiful and West Cedar Creek Municipal District.
