Athens — The Athens Farmer’s Market happening again this Saturday.  However, the next event has even more to offer than the kick-off event.

Thirty-six vendors have signed up to bring a variety of items, including watermelon, okra, peaches, peppers, pickles, relishes, jellies, jams, fried pies, cheeses, baked goods, peanut brittle and much more.

“The Athens Farmer’s Market is a great place to purchase your produce for the week,” said Athens Chamber of Commerce President, Sarah Hueber. “This week, we not only have more produce than last, but we also have homemade candles, soaps, lotions and a variety of handmade items from Henderson County, including bird houses, wreaths, and jewelry.”

Hueber also stated that the Athens Farmer’s Market is growing very quickly, and she expects to see more vendors sign up as time goes on.

“As fall approaches, we will see a variety of fresh produce that corresponds with the particular growing season,” she said.

Tara Wineries will have a booth showcasing local wines made at the winery, and two local vendors will sell a variety of chicken and beef.

The Athens Chamber of Commerce will use the fourth Saturday of each month to have additional activities similar to the Kick Off Event, which will include children’s activities and entertainment.

“The Athens Chamber of Commerce would like to invite non-profit agencies and local organizations to sell food and drinks at the market,” said Hueber.  “One organization will be allowed to sell food and drinks at the market each week.  Organizations will be charged a nominal fee to participate, and can use the opportunity as a fundraiser.”
