Athens — If you believe in miracles, 8-year-old Isabelle (Belle) Mills could be just that — a miracle.

Belle was kicked in the head by a horse on March 11 and was immediately taken to Children's Medical Center in Dallas with serious injuries. Less than two weeks later, Belle is up walking and was released from the hospital Wednesday. She may not yet be totally recovered, but she is on her way.

Belle's parents, Rory and Kristen Mills, have been updating family and friends via a Facebook fan page — Blessing for Belle — about their daughter's condition. The page already has more than 2,000 likes, and well-wishes have been sent out to the girl from around the country. On Wednesday, the family posted on the site that Belle will be doing outpatient therapy in Tyler three  hours a day three times a week.

“Thank you God for this Miracle,” Kristen wrote. “How great is our God, sing with me how Great is our God.”

The community came together to support Belle and her family.  An account for the family has been established at Citizens National Bank and donations can be made to the “Belle Mills Accident Account.” Friends of the family are also preparing for a benefit this Saturday at Groom & Sons' Ace Hardware in Athens. A hotdog and bake sale benefit will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Donations of baked goods are still welcome.

Belle was schedule to participate in the Henderson County Livestock Show this week with her mare, Trixie. Belle not only won the Horsemanship Award on Monday, but Trixie won third place in the halter event with Brianna Arden sitting in as her rider. Photos on the Internet showed little Belle giving a thumbs up when she heard the news.

Additionally, Belle received some good news while hospitalized. She had lost her iPod in a pasture and had been looking for it for a long time. Some friends raised money and presented her with a new iPod in the meantime.
