Gambling raid on Hwy. 31

Two arrests made 25 given citations near Crescent Heights

Athens — After a lengthy investigation, the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at a busy gambling establishment known as the Caddy Shack near Crescent Heights on Friday night.

The HCSO arrested two attendants at the location and issued 25 gambling citations to patrons at the establishment. Deputies also seized $6,500 in cash.

The attendants, Jackie Crim, 59, of Ben Wheeler and Jamie Faye Henry, 25, of Athens, were  booked for possession of gambling devices or paraphernalia, keeping a gambling place and gambling promotion.

The charges are Class A misdemeanors and carry a possible punishment of up to one year in prison and a fine not to exceed $4,000. Crim and Henry were each released after posting $10,000 bond.

“We were able to get an undercover person in last week,” Sheriff Ray Nutt said. “You have to get in and win the game and get money or prizes worth over $5.”

Nutt said the HCSO had long been seeking to gain access to the location on State Highway 31 to further its investigation. Finally, Investigator Kay Langford was able to submit an affidavit for a search warrant. Henderson County Court At Law No. 2 Judge Nancy Perryman found that probable cause existed for a search warrant for numerous items, including gambling devices commonly known as 8-liners. The investigators also found various items of drug paraphernalia.

At 8:45 p.m. on Friday, HCSO Investigators, command staff and Sheriff Ray Nutt went to the 9500 block of State Highway 31 to execute the warrant. The officers found numerous gambling devices and seized 55 mother boards.

Nutt said investigators have additional information linking other individuals to the establishment. The investigation remains ongoing and other arrests are expected concerning the illegal business.

Investigators Henderson County District Attorney’s Office and the County Attorney’s Office also participated in the case.
