CCLACC speaker to discuss pipeline

Athens — Kathy Berek will be the guest speaker at the Cedar Creek Lake Area Chamber of Commerce (CCLACC) monthly meeting at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14.

Berek is the IPL Program Business Director for Tarrant Regional Water District (TRWD) Integrated Pipeline Regional Partnership for Water Supply.

This project is of interest to local residents of Cedar Creek Lake, because the pipeline will travel from Lake Palestine through the Cedar Creek Reservoir to Lake Benbrook.

TRWD has partnered with Dallas Water Utilities (DWU) to build  the pipeline that will extend 150 miles from Lake Palestine to Lake Benbrook, with connections to Cedar Creek Lake and Richland-Chambers Reservoirs.

According to the information from the website, the pipeline is necessary because the population of the DFW Metroplex is expected to surpass 13 million people by the year 2060. This project will enable TRWD and DWU to transport water from Lake Palestine, Cedar Creek Reservoir and Richland-Chambers Reservoir, in order to meet those increased demands. Other rapidly-growing areas, such as Ellis County, will need this additional transport capacity in order to sustain their growth.

The website states that Lake Palestine was chosen for the project, because the lake was built in 1962 for industrial, municipal and recreational purposes. Since the 1960s, the long-term plan has been to bring Lake Palestine online, and make it part of the regional network. More information on the pipeline can be found at

The CCLACC said anyone interested in this subject is invited to attend the luncheon at Vetoni's Restaurant in Gun Barrel City.  Jo Ann Hanstrom, the Chamber President, said you will need to RSVP to 903-887-3152. The chamber will need to give Vetoni's a count of how many people to expect.
