The Cedar Creek Lake Women's Club was entertained by Don Shook and Laurie Granlund during its monthly meeting on Tuesday.
The seasoned duo presented scenes, songs and theatrical moments from popular stage and screen presentations. Granlund started off with her rendition of “Somewhere Over The Rainbow.”
Shook, who is the founder of the Actors Company and current President of the Fort Worth Poetry Society, has been on the Dallas/Fort Worth and national entertainment scene for over 30 years.
Shook's biography says he is an actor, director, producer and author who has award-winning scripts, television shows, and theatrical productions in his bag of credits. Formally with NBC in New York, where he performed at Carnegie Hall in Tom Booth’s opera “Gentlemen In Waiting,” he announced on-air for WNBC, and was part of “The Tonight Show” with Johnny Carson.
Laurie is a national professional singer who grew up in Athens. Granlund told the club she was an Athenian, and graduated from Athens High School before heading to Denton to study music.
While in Athens, Granlund said she performed in the Athens Little Theater, now known as Henderson County Performing Arts Center and was in the Miss Black-Eye Pea Contest.
Granlund has performed as featured soloist at events ranging from Miss Texas Pageant and cruise ships to guest artist with the Irving Symphony Orchestra and the Plano Symphony Orchestra.
Laurie’s stage experience includes roles in Casa Manana and Dallas Summer Musicals’ Broadway series, the Dallas Opera and the Fort Worth Opera. She has also performed as a leading actress for The Actors Company and Don Shook Productions in dinner-theatre production across the country.
The Cedar Creek Women's Club meets the fourth Tuesday of each month at the Cedar Creek Country Club. Each month, the club finds guests to entertain the club members during its luncheon.
