Athens — October sales-tax allocations for Athens were more than the total for the previous year, State Comptroller Susan Combs’ Office reported, Friday.

The city total of $381,355.26 was 3.21 percent above October, 2012, and leaves Athens more than 5-percent ahead of 2012 for the year-to-date.

Combs sent cities, counties, transit systems and special-purpose taxing districts their October local sales-tax allocations totaling $579.8 million, up 5.2 percent compared to October, 2012.

“State sales-tax revenue collections continued to grow at a moderate pace,” Combs said. “Growth was led by collections from the construction, telecommunications and retail sectors. State sales-tax revenue has now increased for 42 consecutive months.”

In addition to the positive numbers for Athens, Chandler continues to have a strong showing. The county’s third-largest city is up 19.40 percent for October and 15.9 percent for the year.

Gun Barrel City totals for the year have been relatively flat. The city was up 1.39 percent in October and is 1.26 percent ahead of 2012 for the year-to-date.
