TYLER – During its 40th Anniversary Banquet held on Oct. 1 in Tyler, Meals on Wheels Ministry announced that Evelyn Ford of Tool was named “Volunteer of the Year” for 2013. Ford has volunteered for over 13 years and runs the site for Tool.
Ford was honored with the award in front of the more than 350 guests who were in attendance for the event at CrossWalk Conference Center, located at Green Acres Baptist Church.
President and CEO of Meals on Wheels Ministry Mike Powell presented the award and said that Ford embodied the true spirit of volunteerism and had served as an invaluable part of the Meals on Wheels team.
“I think these people help us as much as we help them,” said Ford, “Because they believe in living life to the fullest and not feeling sorry for themselves.”
Each day, Ford and her crew of volunteer drivers deliver hot meals to a daily average of 30 homebound seniors and disabled clients in Tool.
The annual event raises critical funds to support the programs and services of Meals on Wheels. Currently, the organization serves over 3,200 clients in six counties, including Gregg, Henderson, Smith, Van Zandt, Upshur and Wood.
