The Athens Review
The Athens Police Department is looking for a man who was involved in a minor accident on East Tyler Street on a stolen motorcycle Sunday morning, then fled the scene.
The man was last seen in the East Corsicana Street area wearing a camouflage jacket.
According to APD reports, dispatch received a call at about 9 a.m. of a minor wreck in the 800 block of East Tyler Street involving a Kawasaki motorcycle and an Chevrolet S-10 pickup.
Chief of Police Rodney Williams III said the motorcycle rider was not at fault in the wreck.
Officer William Carlow went to the scene to work the wreck and discovered that he was looking at more than just a collision.
“During the investigation of the accident, Patrolman Carlow found that the ignition switch was damaged on the motorcycle,” Williams said.
Later in the day, the owner of the motorcycle made contact with APD and said his motorcycle had been stolen from Summitt Apartments in the 2100 block of East Tyler Street.
Police determined that the stolen motorcycle was the same one that had been in the wreck. Broken pieces of the damaged ignition switch were found at the location where the motorcycle had been parked before it was stolen.
