Athens —
A traffic stop on an SUV in southeast Henderson County Monday led to the arrest of a Bullard resident on a first-degree felony drug offense.
Richard Evan Cernoch, 43, was charged with possession of a controlled substance (four grams to 200 grams), possession of marijuana, and driving with an invalid license with a previous conviction.
Cernoch remained in custody Tuesday with bond set at $33,500.
HCSO reports said Dep. Jonathan Halbert was working patrol on County Road 4117, when he stopped a dark colored SUV.
Halbert checked Cernoch’s license through HCSO communications, and learned that it had been suspended.
Cernoch also had a previous conviction for DWLI.
Halbert arrested Cernoch, and began to inventory the vehicle. Inside the SUV, according to reports, the deputy found a substance believed to be methamphetamine.
The search also revealed a clear, plastic bag that contained a small amount of marijuana, as well as drug paraphernalia..
HCSO reports indicate that the suspected narcotics will be sent to the Texas Department of Pubic Safety Crime Lab for analysis.
The possession of a controlled substance charge is a first-degree felony. The other offenses are Class B misdemeanors.
