It's a scary time of year. On Wednesday, Oct. 31, the spooky and the ghoulish will walk the streets of Henderson County.
Yes, it is Halloween. It’s the only time you can walk up to a house wearing a mask and not get arrested.
Henderson County does have their share of exciting events planned for Halloween.
Living for the Brand Cowboy Church has the great Pumpkin Ranch planned as a fundraiser for Children's Ministry. Pumpkins are for sale until Oct. 31.
There is also fall photo scenes, a general store and a petting zoo. Living for the Brand Cowboy Church is located 902 N.E. Loop 7, Athens.
Liberty Baptist Church in Gun Barrel City is holding a Fall Festival on Oct. 31, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Everything is completely free.
Included in the event are a concession stand, lots of games, a black-light puppet show, cake walk, face painting and candy. Liberty Baptist is located on State Highway 198, across the street from Vetoni's Restaurant in Gun Barrel City.
The first annual Cedar Creek Country Club Pumpkin Patch is to debut on Halloween. The country club will host a free Halloween Pumpkin Patch with mini-pumpkins, free popcorn, costume contest, “ghost glove” balloons, and dollar hotdogs and sodas.
The event starts at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 31. Cedar Creek Country Club is located on U.S. Highway 175 between Kemp and Mabank. A costume contest will be held every 15 minutes in the parking lot starting at 6 p.m. The pumpkin patch is sponsored by Dr. John Loar and Borders Oil and Gas. For information, call 903-498-6761.
There will also be the Gun Barrel City Halloween dance, costume contest and hay ride, known as Gun Barrel City's Monster Mash Bash. It will be located at the Gun Barrel City Pavilion from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Music will be provided by Tuley's Karaoke.
Hay Rides will be $5 per person, with 6 and under free. The pavilion is located behind East Texas Medical Center, across from the police department. For more information, call 903-887-1087.
The Cedar Creek Lake Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its Trick or Treat at the Mabank Pavilion Oct. 31, 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Businesses will be on hand to hand out candy to the hundreds of kids that come to the pavilion.
This event is sponsored by the Mabank Chapter of the Cedar Creek Lake Area Chamber of Commerce.
