Domestic disturbance leads to drug arrest

Athens — Athens Police Department officers investigating a domestic disturbance arrested a man for possession of a dangerous drug Thursday.

Phillip Clinton James was booked into the Henderson County Jail for possession of the drug and drug paraphernalia. James was awaiting arraignment Thursday afternoon.

APD reports indicate that police received a call at about 4 a.m., Thursday, reporting an altercation outside a house in the 700 block of Ruth Street.

Officers Dana Dykes, Marshall Passons and Sgt. Jason McEntire were sent to the scene, where they saw James exit a vehicle parked in the street.

According to reports, James got out of the vehicle and dropped a newspaper to the roadway.  He also dropped a pill bottle in the vicinity.

Officers found the pills and a pipe that can be used to smoke marijuana. Lt. Mike Davis said he expects a charge to be filed at-large against James for possession of less than two ounces of marijuana.

APD also arrested a woman for possession of marijuana at a traffic stop, Thursday.

Vessandre Freeman, 29, was charged with less than two ounces of the substance. She was released Thursday morning with bond set at $3,500.

 A second occupant in the car, Relldis Donovan Jr., 28, was arrested for multiple traffic offenses. He was released, with bond set at $800.

Cpl. Dana Dykes made the stop at 12:05 a.m. at the intersection of Owen and Carrol Street. He was assisted at the scene by Officer Marshall Passons and Sgt. Jason McEntire.
