Athens —
An Athens Police Department traffic stop resulted in the arrest of two men on drug charges who have made multiple visits to the Henderson County Jail in recent weeks.
Al Gene Fulton, 29, was charged with possession of less than two ounces of the substance, and a traffic charge for no driver’s license. He was released, with total bond set at $5,500 on the two charges.
Jermaine Deshawn Rushing, 28, was charged with possession of less that two ounces of marijuana, and released on $5,500 bond.
Officer Marshall Passons made the stop on North Pinkerton Street shortly before 3 a.m., Saturday.
The latest arrest added to a string of trips to the Henderson County Jail for Fulton. On Oct. 26, he was arrested for minor offenses, including driving without a license, disorderly conduct and violation of the city noise ordinance. On Oct. 20, Fulton was arrested for no driver’s license and disorderly conduct.
Fulton was also arrested Oct. 3 on a warrant, in connection with the abduction of a Frankston man. The victim was allegedly forced to withdraw money from his bank account.
According to reports, the complainant said two men forced him into his own vehicle, while a third person got into the driver’s seat. He was taken to an ATM machine, and told to withdraw all of his money, in exchange for his life and release.
Rushing was arrested twice last month, on Oct. 18 for simple assault, and on Oct. 12 for driving with an invalid license.

Athens house burned
A Monday afternoon fire inflicted severe damage to a house at 911 W. Cayuga Dr. in Athens.
No one was injured in the blaze that started in the back bedroom of the residence. Athens Fire Chief John McQueary said the resident had been staying with her sister and was not at home at the time of the blaze. The cause of the fire is under investigation. -

Time to have a blast
