Athens Police Beat


The Athens Police Department reported the following activity Friday through Monday:

• Officer John Riley was dispatched to Wal Mart in the 1400 block of E. Tyler Street concerning a theft of property ($50 to $500).

• Officer John Riley arrested a man on Larkin Street on Henderson County Sheriff’s Office warrants. James Roland Jr., 40, was booked into the Henderson County Jail.

• Corporal Gregory Hill took a report of a robbery from an individual in the 700 block of W. College Street.

• Officer Chad Walker spoke with an 83-year-old woman at the Save-a-Lot store in the 500 block of S. Palestine Street someone snatched her purse from a grocery basket. The man dropped the purse as he ran away.

• Officer Billy Troy Harrod was dispatched to Old West Bean & Burger where three purses were stolen from vehicles parked there.

• Officer John Riley arrested 34-year-old Tommy Justice in the 1100 block of E. Tyler Street on a failure to appear warrant issued in Grayson County.

• Officers were dispatched to a fire at Faith Church on Mission Street. Athens Street Department put up a barricade while officers worked traffic at the scene.

• Officer John Riley spoke to a woman in the 200 block of S. Wofford who said her wallet was taken from her vehicle.

• Officer Chad Walker was dispatched to a criminal mischief in the 300 block of W. College Street. An unknown person broke open the window of the complainants van.]

• Officer Chad Walker arrested Rufus Sims in the 200 block of Flat Creek Road. Sims was booked without incident for bond forfeiture, and burglary of a vehicle.
