The Henderson County Fire Marshal has resigned after just over a year on the job.
John Holcomb’s letter of resignation was accepted by the Henderson County Commissioners Court at its regularly-scheduled meeting at the County Courthouse, Tuesday.
Holcomb is leaving the county position to become fire marshal for the city of Forney. His resignation becomes effective Jan. 8.
“It has been a pleasure working for you, and working for the citizens of Henderson County,” Holcomb said. “It’s probably been one of better places I’ve worked during my career.”
Holcomb said he has done a considerable amount of public relations work with the property owner’s associations in the county during his year as Fire Marshal.
He also made some changes to the internal operations of the office.
“It has been a pleasure working with all the departments in the county,” Holcomb said. It’s been a real honor working with Sheriff Ray Nutt.”
Holcomb was selected in December, 2008 from four finalists interviewed by the commissioners. He came from the City of Mabank where he had been Fire Marshal since 1999.
“Since you took office,” County Judge David Holstein said, “I’ve had calls from people complementing your office. The changes have been felt throughout the county.”
Commissioners voted 3-0 to accept the resignation. Commissioners Joe Hall of Precinct 1 and Wade McKinney of Precinct 2 were not present.
In other action, Commissioners voted unanimously to allow District Attorney Scott McKee to use the District Attorney drug seizure funds to supplement the salary of First Assistant DA Mark Hall during the year 2010.
McKee plans to add $7,000 to Hall’s $69,000 salary. Hall will be trying more cases next year, while McKee serves in active duty with the National Guard.
Commissioners also voted to pay an invoice in the amount of $255,113 related to the jail expansion project.
