Chase ends, arrests made

A man wanted for parole violation was arrested after a chase near Brownsboro Wednesday.

Brenton Keith Ford, 41, was charged with parole violation, and evading arrest or detention. He was held without bond on the parole violation.

Wanda Elaine Widman was held for hindering arrest of a felon, and two traffic violations. Total bond on Widman was $6,500.

Henderson County Sheriff’s Office Special Assignment Deputy John Daniels attempted to stop a Toyota 4-door vehicle at the intersection of Farm-to-Market Road 607 at County Road 3611.

When Daniels flashed his emergency lights, the vehicle sped away, traveling through a yard and around a house. Daniels pursued the Toyota and located it at a residence on FM 607.

Daniels knocked on the door of the residence, but got no answer for several minutes, reports said.

Finally Widman opened the door and told Daniels that a person named Sonny Keith Crawford had used the car to buy cigarettes. She told Daniels that he must have run off through a field behind the house.

Daniels obtained permission to search the house, and gave the residence a quick look with the assistance of Investigator Wick Gabbard and Deputy Mitchell Patterson.

Soon, HCSO command staff and Brownsboro Police arrived, and conducted a second search.

This time officers found Ford hiding in a compartment under a garden style bathtub. It appeared to officers that several items had been placed in front of the compartment to conceal it.

Ford was arrested on a parole warrant for possession of a prohibited weapon. He was listed on the warrant as armed and dangerous.

    The Henderson County Sheriff's Office and Texas Department of Public Safety Game Wardens assisted in locating an plane that went down in Lake Palestine early Thursday. The Department of Public Safety is investigating the crash.

  • City hears presentation for new apartment complex

    The Athens City Council heard a presentation, Wednesday, from a group that hopes to obtain a grant to build an apartment complex in south Athens.
    Jay Oji, of Sphinx Development Corporation, said the 80-unit complex called Robbins Villas would be built on a tract of land where Robbins Road intersects with Loop 7. The affordable housing units would cost about $12 million to construct.

    A former Athens High School student Bryan Sory is now flying FA-18C Hornets, the U.S. Navy’s frontline fighter plane.  Lt. Commander Sory flies for VFA-151, The Vigilantes, based in Lemoore, Calif.  VFA-151 deployed aboard the U.S.S. Lincoln in December, 2011, and is currently flying missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, the overarching operation that encompasses, among other things, ongoing counter-terrorism and nation-building efforts in Afghanistan.
