• Volunteers are needed to deliver meals to the elderly for Meals on Wheels. The local route takes about an hour to run. For more information contact Gladys Bowman at 903-675-8577.

• The Texas Game Warden Museum at the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center is looking for individuals interested in volunteering their time to open the museum on Saturday and Sundays to visitors. For more information call 903-670-2251.

Wednesday, Dec. 9

• Henderson County Retired School Personnel will hold its meeting at the First United Methodist Church activity building at 2 p.m. A Christmas program will precede the business session. Refreshments will be served. Any and all retired school employees are invited to attend.

Friday, Dec. 13

• Keep Athens Beautiful will accept entries to its annual Christmas Decorating Contest until 5 p.m. The Keep Athens Beautiful board members will judge displays on Dec. 14. The awards will be for Keep Athens Beautiful, Residential, Children’s Choice and Best decorated business. To enter a display call KAB at 903-675-7961.

Monday, Dec. 14

• Trinity Valley Community College community services will hold a Financial Aid Seminar at 6 p.m. in the Library Classroom on the Athens campus. The purpose of this seminar is to provide information about different forms of financial aid that may be available to students enrolling in non-credit workforce training. • Cross Roads Little Dribblers will accept sign-up forms until today. No late sign-ups will be accepted. Pre-season warm ups will be held in the Cross Roads gym on Dec. 12 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Thursday, Dec. 17

• The City of Murchison will hold a community Christmas celebration from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The event will include Christmas carols by the tree and hot chocolate with Santa at the fire station.

Monday, Dec. 21

• Henderson County Senior Citizens will sponsor a Christmas dance at the Senior Citizens Building, on State Highway 31 east, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. All ages are welcome. Music will be provided by the Highway 31 Band.

• The Henderson County Retired School Personnel Association meets at 2 p.m. the second Wednesday of the month in the Activity Building of the First United Methodist Church, Lovers Lane and College Street in Athens. For more information, call 903-451-2515.

• The College Street Market will be held every second Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, 2101 E. College St. Handmade crafts, collectibles and services are all offered. • Athens Genealogical Organization meets at 6 p.m., the last Thursday of the month, January through October, at the First Methodist Church on Lovers Lane in Athens.

• Poynor Civic Center’s First Thursday concert features live country music on the first Thursday of the month. The admission is free. Frankston Healthcare Center serves food beginning at 6 p.m. Anyone who wishes may bring a dessert. Donations for food benefit the center’s residents. Music is from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., featuring The Country Gents and guests. Dancing space is provided and every night is open mic night.
