Warehouse Ministries to hold coat and blanket drive

Special to the Review

Warehouse Ministries at 108 E Larkin in Athens is sponsoring “Recycle the Warmth” — a coat and blanket drive.

Donations of coats, blankets, and gloves are being accepted through December 17. Collection boxes in Athens are located at True Value, Cain Center, Del Norte Grocery, KIDSFIRST Christian Academy and First Assembly of God Church in Malakoff.

The Warehouse is accepting donations on Saturday Dec. 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p. m. and on Sunday evening, Dec. 13 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 pm.

A group of women have been meeting on Saturdays to sew blankets for the drive during the collection times. 25 bolts of fleece material were donated to the warehouse to use for blankets. Malakoff Independent School District FCCLA and homemaking groups took two bolts and made blankets for the drive.

Eustace ISD FCCLA group and faculty took two bolts of fabric to make into blankets for the drive. Also the First Baptist Church in Malakoff Teen Girls Ministry is sewing two bolts into blankets.

Several individuals from Athens, Eustace, and Malakoff have taken fabric and made blankets, scarves, and hats. All these items will be distributed to any who have need (until they run out) on Sat. Dec. 19 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

During this time we will also be serving Taco soup to all who come. All items are free of charge. Any monetary donations can be made to Warehouse Ministries and will be used to purchase more coats, gloves, and food items for the meal.

Volunteers are welcome for sewing this Saturday or distrbuting flyers, and on Dec. 19 to help serve food and distribute the warmth. They can contact the Warehouse at 903-288-7456 or 903-340-9579 to volunteer.
