From Staff Reports
Two stretches of roadway on the east side of Henderson County will soon be getting upgrades, Larry Krantz of Texas Department of Transportation Tyler District announced Friday.
Construction crews will begin adding 3-foot-wide shoulders to sections of Farm-to-Market Road 607 and Farm-to-Market Road 317 in early December.
Daytime lane closures will be in effect during the project, which is scheduled to be completed by the summer of 2010.
According to TxDOT records, the total cost of the two projects will be about $1.8 million. The more expensive of the two involves about $1.5 million to improve a 2.592-mile stretch of Farm-to-Market 317 in the Leagueville area. The project extends from the FM 317 intersection with FM 1803 to FM 607.
The FM 607 construction will cover about 3.4 miles at a cost of just over $300,000.
Big Creek Construction has been selected for both projects. Big Creek Construction of Lorena, works in Henderson County often, and recently completed projects on State Highway 31, FM Road 316 and U.S. Highway 175.
Company officials said Big Creek has more than 250 employees, and 10 road crews in its arsenal.
In 11 years, it has become one of the leading highway construction businesses in Texas.
In 2003, Big Creek reached number 93 on the American Road and Transportation Builder’s Association Top 300 list.
TxDOT offices will close Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving, and will resume normal business Nov. 30.
