• Volunteers are needed to deliver meals to the elderly for Meals on Wheels. The local route takes about an hour to run. For more information contact Gladys Bowman at 903-675-8577.

• The Texas Game Warden Museum at the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center is looking for individuals interested in volunteering their time to open the museum on Saturday and Sundays to visitors. For more information call 903-670-2251.

Thursday, Nov. 19

• The Athens Classic Car Association and the Athens Whataburger will host a “end of season” Cruise Nite beginning at 5 p.m. The free event will feature classic cars, customs, street rods, muscle cars and antique cars. There will be goodies, prizes, awards and raffles for participants. The public is welcome to attend.

Friday, Nov. 20

• The Anderson County Republicans will host Debra Medina, candidate for Texas governor, at the Disabled American Veterans Hall, on 927 Gardner Drive, in Palestine from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served. For more information call 903-584-3371 or 903-731-7023.

The Literary Society of Henderson County will meet at the East Texas Arboretum, 1601 Patterson Road. Dr. Byron McGilvray, Trinity Valley Community College, and the Encore Choir will be the program. Guests are welcome.

• Meals of Kindness and local community churches will sponsor a free Thanksgiving Dinner at Eastern Hills Church of Christ, on East Corsicana Street, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Wednesday, Dec. 2

• Join Cedar Lake Home Health and Hospice for a Celebrating Life lunch noon Dec. 2 at their office in Malakoff, 104 S. Terry St. David Hennessee will be the guest speaker, as we celebrate the life of your loved one. You are welcome to bring a guest. • “A Tuna Christmas” will begin at Trinity Valley Community College for a 6-performance run. The first will be on this date at 7:30 p.m. in the college’s auditorium. Performances are scheduled to follow at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 3-4 and 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 5 and 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 6.

Five cans of non-perishable food will be redeemable for one free admission.

Thursday, Dec. 3

• Trinity Valley Community College will hold its annual Food Drive beginning at 6 p.m. Volunteers will meet at Cardinal Gym. Supplies such as sacks and maps will be provided. All food gathered benefits the Henderson County Food Pantry. Those who are interested in having a group come by their home to collect donations or who are interested in helping with the food drive should call Mike Peek at 903-675-6252.

Sunday, Dec. 6

• The Henderson County Republican Women and the Cedar Creek Republican Club will hold a joint Christmas Party and dinner at the Ranch House Restaurant in Gun Barrel City. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. Entertainment will be provided by Jimmy Dale and Dotty Hartsell. Attendees should bring a new unwrapped toy that will be donated to the Rainbow Room. • Genesis HospiceCare and First Presbyterian Church will host a five-week series “Coping with Grief during the Holidays.” A meeting will be held at the church, on 306 East Tyler Street, every Wednesday — from Nov. 18 to Dec. 16 — from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. The public is invited to any or all of the free sessions. • The Athens Cancer Support Group and The Bosom Buddies Breast Cancer Support Group meet together every second and fourth Tuesday of the month at 1 p.m. in the ETMC Conference Room. All cancer patients, survivors and family members are encouraged to attend.

• The Workforce Solutions East Texas Job Club meets each Tuesday, at 205 North Murchison Street, Suite 101 in Athens, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. It helps job seekers with various aspects of conducting job searches, interviewing techniques, resume writing and current job trends.

• The Athens Lions Club meets the second and fourth Thursday of each month. Meetings are at the Tilo’s Cuisine in Heritage Square at 12 p.m. For more information call 903-477-0301.

• Caring Hearts Hospice, of Gun Barrel City, would like to invite you to a Grief Support Group for those that are struggling with the death of a loved one, friend, or family member. We will be meeting on the 3rd Thursday night of each month at 6:30, at the Caring Hearts Office located at 1837 W. Main in Gun Barrel City. There is no cost for these meetings. Our goal is to come along beside you and walk through this time with you. These meetings are open to the public and everyone is invited to attend. For more information contact 903-887-4788.
