Gunfire Friday leads to arrest
Early morning gunfire led to the arrest of a 32-year-old man near Athens Friday, a Henderson County Sheriff’s Office report said.
Jason Wayne Hart was booked into the Henderson County Jail on a second degree felony charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The charge carries a sentence of 2-10 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice upon conviction.
HCSO received a call that shots had been fired at a person operating a road grader on Richardson Road. When officers arrived, the subject who had fired the shots went back inside his residence.
Attempts by officers to gain entrance into the residence were ignored, reports said. As officers attempted to make contact with the occupants of the residence, authorities shut down U.S. Highway 175W at the Richardson Road entrance.
After a few minutes, Chief Dep. Dan Parker was able to reach Rose McCullough inside the residence, by telephone. Parker was able to persuade McCullough and her son, Hart, to come out and speak to officers.
After a discussion, officers determined that Hart had fired a pellet gun toward the road grader.
