Corruption within city official’s office alleged against Monica Corker, bond set at $20,000
Alleged corruption within the city officials office brought the FBI back to Seven Points where they made a surprising arrest Thursday morning.
Seven Points City Judge Monica Corker, 48, was arrested by Henderson County District Attorney Investigator Jody Miller with assistance from Henderson County Sheriff Ray Nutt and Deputy Billy Jack Valentine.
The DA’s office issued the Abuse of Official Capacity warrant for Corker’s arrest after a lengthy investigation by their office in conjunction with the FBI and the Texas Rangers.
DA Investigator Balde Quintinillia found evidence in Corker’s purse after her arrest which lead to an additional felony charge of Fraudulent Possession of Identifying Information.
Although District Attorney Scott McKee declined to comment on the specifics of the case, he did state that he has asked for help from the FBI since he took office in January to help combat public integrity crimes.
“Citizen confidence in the criminal justice system and our public officials is crucial, and I am very thankful to the FBI for their hard work and expertise,” McKee said. “This office has taken great steps to ensure that the citizens of Henderson County can trust their officials and the system. These types of crimes are always at the top of my list, and I have enlisted the help of the FBI, Texas Rangers and other agencies to investigate and root out public official corruption wherever it can be found.”
Corker was booked into Henderson County Jail Thursday afternoon, and is held in lieu of $20,000 bond for both charges.
