3 children injured in Saturday wreck
The Malakoff Police Department is current investigating a Saturday-morning wreck that sent two children to Children’s Medical Center in Dallas with undisclosed injuries.
MPD Sgt. Floyd Thomas said the lone vehicle in the wreck was a 2000 Dodge Durango, driven by Matthew G. Parker, 21, of Malakoff. Three children, a 5-year-old boy, 3-year-old girl and 11-month-old boy were passengers in the vehicle.
Police reports state the Durango was headed west at about 8:35 a.m. on State Highway 31 east.
“He topped the hill, lost control and went into a guardrail,” Thomas said. “The driver said he went to sleep.”
Parker was transported to East Texas Medical Center Athens by ambulance. He was treated and released Friday.
The 11-month-old boy and 3-year-old girl were transported by Care-Flight to Children’s Medical Center in Dallas, Thomas said.
Thomas declined to reveal the names of the injured children, and said he had not received an update on their condition Monday afternoon. Thomas said the investigation into what caused the wreck is still open.
