Woman dies in house fire

A Tuesday night fire that left a Brownsboro woman dead is under investigation by Henderson County Fire Marshall John Holcomb’s office.

Holcomb said the resident was identified as Barbara Rose of 12056 Farm-to-Market-Road 314. The victim was pulled from the burning house, but died at East Texas Medical Center, Tyler, the following day, Holcomb said.

Holcomb said the cause of the blaze in the single-wide mobile home has not been determined.

Rusty Quattlebaum of the Brownsboro Volunteer Fire Department said firefighters were on the scene within three minutes of receiving the call.

“When we arrived on the scene, there was fire showing from outside,” Quattlebaum said. “One crew went in to attack the fire, and the other to do a primary search. They found her during the primary search.”

Rose was transported by EMS to Tyler.

“This is the first time in my 12 years with the fire department that we responded to a house fire with someone in it, and they had to be pulled out,” Quattlebaum said.

Firefighters were able to save much of the house, but there was smoke damage throughout the structure, Quattlebaum said.

Quattlebaum said Chandler Volunteer Fire Department personnel assisted Brownsboro in fighting the blaze. There were about 25 firefighters at the scene.

According to information from the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office, dispatch received the fire call at 9:36 p.m.

No further information about the victim, or her cause of death, was available Friday afternoon.
