The Athens Review
So what kinds of things will The Women of St. Matthias' Episcopal Church be offering at their 57th Annual Smorgasbord next week?
Uh, what would you expect from a smorgasbord but a little bit of everything?
A variety of meats, salads, desserts, breads and vegetables — not to mention a good time of fellowship — will be served when the smorgasbord kicks off next Tuesday at the church (located at 205 Willowbrook in Athens, next to Bel Air Elementary).
Doors will open at 10:45 a.m. and the event will last through 1:30 p.m. Cost is $10.
“If you’ve never been to the Smorgasbord, you’re missing out,” said Rana Schneider, who heads St. Matthias' Episcopal Church Women.
The first Smorgasbord was held in 1956 and spearheaded by Mary Jane Gould, who died in 2010. One of the special traditions at the event is that all the food is home-cooked by the women of the church.
For more information on the Smorgasbord, call the church at 903-675-3210 or contact Vicki Beeler at 903-675-1619. The event is take-out, no delivery.
