Athens — The Athens Police Department worked multiple wrecks on a rainy Thursday, but none involving life threatening injuries.

The biggest wreck was a 3-vehicle crash reported at 5:17 p.m. in the 1400 block of East  Tyler Street. There were four occupants in the three vehicles who all were transported to East Texas Medical Center in Athens for treatment.

APD could not release the names of the injured or details of the wreck on Friday afternoon, but reports show Officer William Carlow was first on the scene, and was joined by four other officers, as well as two fire engines from Athens Fire Department.

The wreck tied up traffic on East Tyler Street, while rescue personnel worked the accident. Carlow cleared the scene at about 6:30 p.m.

At 7:54 p.m., APD received another  wreck call from 9-1-1 dispatch.  The wreck involved one vehicle that crashed into a telephone pole in the 600 block of Cayuga Drive. Officer Garrett S. Stewart investigated the wreck, and was joined at the scene by APD and AFD personnel.

Officers were also called to an afternoon wreck in the 200 block of East Corsicana Street at the intersection with Carroll Street. In that wreck, a compact car struck the side of a Dodge Ram truck, lifting the pickup off the pavement.

The National Weather Service Remote Automated Weather Station reported .88 inches in the 24-hour period that ended at 9 a.m. on Friday. Other parts of the city received more than an inch of rain.

The storm produced the first recorded rainfall in Athens for the month of May.

Henderson County police and fire departments received an alarm shortly after 7 p.m. alerting them to potentially-dangerous weather in the area.  A few limbs and trees were also down around the county along with  brief power outages.

On Friday afternoon, Oncor reported seven outages in Henderson County, accounting for 42 customers.
