The Athens Review
An unidentified machete-wielding man who robbed two Athens residents in their apartment on Friday is being sought by police.
The Athens Police Department reports that victims described the man as 5-feet and 6-inches tall and weighing about 180 pounds. At the time of the robbery, the thief was wearing a gray bandana that covered the bottom portion of his face and a hoodie jacket.
Police reports said the complainants, 21-year-old Daniel Monday and 23-year-old Kevin Harmon, told Cpl. William Carlow that at about 11 a.m., the man entered their apartment through the front door that was not totally closed with the machete in his hand. He demanded money, and began to swing the machete in a threatening manner.
According to police, the victims gave the intruder their money, about $300, after which he demanded their cell phones. When they had complied with that request, the bandit exited through the front door and fled. No one was injured during the robbery.
The victims told police that after the assailant left, they exited the apartment, and spotted him running through the laundry area at the apartment complex. They were unable to catch up to the robber and contacted police.
The robbery has been turned over to the Criminal Investigations Division for follow-up.
