Area man found guilty on felony charge

Anderson will be sentenced in October, among the offenders on the first Top 10 Offenders list

A Kemp area man faces sentencing after being convicted in the 173rd District Court Thursday on a felony drug charge.

Bricky Joe Anderson, 42, was found guilty on a charge of possession and transport of a chemical with intent to manufacture a controlled substance.

The offense is a second degree felony and according to the Texas Penal Code carries a possible sentence of confinement in prison for a term of not more than 20 years or less than two years.

The third and final day of the trial began with Judge Dan Moore’s charge to the jury. Following closing arguments, the jury retired to deliberate at 10:51 a.m. At about 1:30 p.m., the guilty verdict was announced.

Moore ordered a pre-sentencing investigation and set the date for the punishment phase for Oct. 5.

Anderson’s bond was set at $100,000.

He was indicted in February, 2009 for the March 2008 offense. He was arraigned March 30 and entered a not guilty plea.

John Youngblood was designated as his defense attorney.

Anderson was among the alleged offenders listed among the first Henderson County Sheriff’s Department’s Top 10 Offenders in February.

Two weeks after the list was released, deputies received information concerning his whereabouts and served a warrant on Anderson.
