Locals girls to participate in Distinguished Youth of Texas Program

Athens — Jayde Justice, of Athens, daughter of Brandon Justice and Tiffany Medders Justice and Kaylee LaRue, of Athens, daughter of Jennifer LaRue and the late Scott LaRue,  have been selected as candidates in the Distinguished Youth of Texas Scholarship and Recognition Program to be held Nov. 23-25 at the Marriott Rivercenter Hotel in San Antonio.

During the weekend competition, two students will be chosen to receive a $1,000 U.S. Savings Bond, and the right to serve as a State Program Titleholder for one year.  In all, more than $5,000 in awards and prizes will be presented to various participants.

Cait Pool of Athens, daughter of Clay and Deidra Pool, is the current Young Miss of Texas.

This will be the fourth year for Jayde Justice and the third year for Kaylee LaRue to receive this honor.

The Distinguished Youth Program is designed to recognize girls in grades two through seven, who rank high academically, and who are leaders in their schools and communities.

The judging criteria used to select the two state titleholders include the following:  Scholastic Record; Service to School & Community, Personality Projection; and Interview.

Program Founder, Warren Alexander, states, “This program truly reflects the female youth of the Twenty-First Century.  The candidates are well-rounded intelligent students.   Sixty percent of the judging involved written resumes, with another significant portion being the interview with the judges.”

The Program Finals will be held Sunday afternoon, Nov. 25 at the Marriott Rivercenter Hotel, and will culminate in the names of the new Little Miss of Texas and the new Young Miss of Texas.

Special Guests featured in the program will be the current Little Miss of Texas, Kennedy Raphelt of Nocona, and the current Young Miss of Texas, Cait Pool of Athens.

Jayde and Kaylee are sponsored by various local businesses, family and friends.
