Being a member of the Trinity Valley Community College Lady Cardinals has a nice ring to it.
The Lady Cardinals on Tuesday were given their rings commemorating their 2012-13 junior college women’s national championship. TVCC finished the season 36-1 en route to claiming the school’s seventh women’s hoops title — the most of any school in the nation.
The rings have 58 stones around the top and the Roman numeral “VII” to represent the number of titles. On one side of the ring, it says “No Doubt 2013” with a rope hanging over the championship trophy.
The Lady Cardinals capped off their 2012-13 campaign on March 23 with a 83-71 victory over Central Arizona in Salina, Kan., under first-year head-coach Elena Lovato.
“As soon as I opened my ring, I couldn't help but scream,” Lovato said. “This shows that it is a reality now and that it is for real. I will keep my ring with me forever and the six kids that are here have their rings already.”
Lovato said that for the freshman class, seeing the new rings gives them motivation for the upcoming season.
“I think it makes the girls hungry for another one,” Lovato said. “The freshman are ready to get back on the floor and the experience that our team had here last year makes them ready for another one.”
