Long-time Rotarian Andrea Pickens was named Rotarian of the Year at the Rotary Club of Cedar Creek Lake's annual installation/awards banquet.
Pickens has been a Rotarian for 21 years and has twice been President of the Rotary Club. Pickens was recruited by Rotarian Ronnie Davis.
“Ronnie said the Rotary did good things for the community,” said Pickens. “I wanted to help my community.”
According to President Kathi Nailling, Pickens was chosen as Rotarian of the Year because of her continued dedication to the club.
“Pickens and Peggy Price have almost single-handidly produced the Rotary's Celebrity Waiter Event,” Nailling said.
In addition to Celebrity Waiter, Pickens was instrumental in starting the Make A Difference Day which the Cedar Creek Lake Rotary Club sponsors each year. Pickens was one of the first women to join the Rotary Club of Cedar Creek Lake.
The annual banquet was held on Tuesday evening at Cedar Creek Country Club.
Nailling, in her welcoming remarks, thanked the club for her year as President.
“Every Rotarian made my job as President much easier, and I appreciate the fact that everyone stepped up to help,” she said.
Nailling then passed the gavel to the 2013-2014 Rotary President, Mike Groom.
Lee Montgomery, Past Assistant District Governor, installed Groom and his board. Board of Directors for the coming year are: Erin Osborn, President-Elect and Secretary; Dale Molander, Treasurer; Abdul Abdin, Community Service; Bill Burnett, Club Services; Rebecca Smith, Vocational Services; Barbara Turner, International Services; Lee Montgomery, Foundation Chairman; Robert Blaase, New Generations Chairman; Andrea Pickens and Peggy Price, Celebrity Co-Chairs; Karen Kelso, Sergeant at Arms; Bob Burns, Reading is Fundamental Chairperson; and Kathi Nailling, Past President.
Groom awarded Abdul Abdin and Erin Osborn to Paul Harris Fellows. Those are given to Rotarians who have shown exceptional service to the Rotary Foundation. Other awards included an Appreciation Award presented to Rebecca Smith for her continued contribution at the Vocational Services Chairman.
