AISD hires PBK architects

ATHENS — Athens Independent School District Blake Stiles believes one of the biggest considerations rendered at Thursday’s school board meeting was to choose a company that will carry out construction for security at Athens High School and Athens Middle School.  The contractor is known as a construction manager at risk.

The company chosen was PBK Architects. Six companies had  contributed bids to AISD prior to the selection.

Stiles said the company will formulate plans for a car lane for student pickup and delivery at AMS.

“Discussions began in August last year for the middle school, and the traffic was stacked up on Highway 19,” he said. “This should help.”

Stiles also plans to have better security at both AMS and AHS. That will include a more confined room where people will offer their credentials as a person enters either school.

“We had started discussions on this back in September and October,” he said. “The elementaries already had this.  The problem with the school in Connecticut made us accelerate our efforts in both the middle school and high school.”

Board offices were also filled at the meeting. By vote of the board of trustees, Robert Risko was elected President, while David Freeman was elected Vice President.  Bob Spears was elected secretary.

More information about the AISD meeting of trustees will be offered in the Saturday edition of the Athens Daily Review.
