The Athens Review
The 137th Kentucky Derby is just around the corner. If you’re like most Athenians you won’t be hopping the red-eye to Louisville to partake in the festivities. Just because you’re not in the Blue Grass State this time around, though, doesn’t mean that you wont be able to celebrate the event.
The East Texas Arboretum will be hosting it’s annual spring gala on May 14, 2011. The theme for this year’s event is the Kentucky Derby and is being styled as the Run for the Roses Gala.
Gala goers are expected to dress in traditional derby fashion; and don’t forget the fancy hats. The honorary chairman and chairwoman for this years event will be Bob and Leta McDonald. And what would a Kentucky Derby party be without the Mint Juleps? Well, never fear. There will be no shortage of the minty concoctions on hand. Traditions Restaurant, out of Tyler, will be catering the event.
In additional to food, drink and fashion, attendees can expect to be entertained by the sounds of the East Texas Jazz Orchestra.
The Run for the Roses Gala will be on May 14, at 7pm, at the East Texas Arboretum. Tickets are $50 and all proceeds from the event will benefit the arboretum.
Everyone is invited to attend the gala. Get your tickets today by calling (903) 675-5630.
