Friends of the Library membership drive under way

The Athens Review

Athens — The Friends of the Henderson County Murchison Memorial Library have kicked off their annual membership drive.

The Friends of the Library, a non-profit organization, provides direct support for the library by providing books, periodicals and other materials and supplies. Since tax dollars provide only operational expenditures, the role of the Friends is crucial in making sure the library is able to provide current books and audio-visual materials for children and adults.

In 2012, the Friends provided more than $8,300 in support to the library. These funds were made available through member donations, two grants and an annual used book sale.  The next used book sale will be held June 6-8.

Purchases for the library included books, library cards, book review journals, magazine and newspaper subscriptions, speakers and supplies for the summer children’s program, videos, staff shirts, supplies and conference fees for staff to attend the Texas Library Association conference.

If you would like to become a member or active supporter of the Friends of the Library, call LaVonne Adams at 903-675-8780 or check with the Library for additional information.

The Henderson County Murchison Memorial Library is located at 121 S. Prairieville. Library hours are Monday through Friday 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
