The Society‘s Mission Statement is to recognize and honor those brave men and women who risked life and fortune to found an independent and free Republic, remember and celebrate historic dates and events,  preserve historic sites and artifacts and to perpetuate the heritage and history of  Texas for current and future generations its citizens.

The James George Chapter is named for a man who was among the Texians at Gonzales, that repelled the Mexican army, on October 2, 1835. The Mexican army attempted to recapture a “6 pounder cannon,” that the Mexicans had loaned them as protection against marauding Indians. This is where the famous "Come And Take It" flag was first displayed.

George was one of 32 men who answered Col. William Barrett Travis’ call for help, went though Gen. Santa Anna’s line and joined 150 other men at the Alamo. This group became know as the "Immortal 32," and are recognized in a memorial at Gonzales, Texas.
