TVCC rodeo team starts winning streak early in year
The members of the TVCC rodeo team have already won approximately $10,000 in prizes at various individual amateur events.
In less than two weeks, the students on the rodeo team took prizes at several amateur events.
“We have a great group of students this year and I am really excited about the upcoming season. There are several other students on our team, in addition to these guys, who are very competitive,” said Rodeo Coach Steve Keith.
The students who won prize money in the pre-season amateur competitions were:
• Davis Hudson of Jacksonville, Fla., who took the third-place prize for bull riding at the Fort Worth Stockyards Rodeo, as well as winning first- and third-place honors at rodeos in Hamilton and Killeen;
• Casey Huckabee of Mims, Fla., who won first place in bull riding at Billy Bob’s in Fort Worth and second place at the Fort Worth Stockyards Rodeo;
• Cole Spurgeon of Ennis, who won second place in the No. 12 roping competition at the Circle T Arena in Hamilton.
• Brandon Dudley of Winnie and Shannon Rodell of Buffalo, who as a pair took first place at the team roping competition at the Circle T Arena in Hamilton.
• Paige Magrath of Kearney, Mo., who won first place in breakaway calf roping and third place in barrel racing at the Fort Worth Stockyards Rodeo.
The TVCC rodeo team competed as a group for the first time this year Oct. 4-6 at the Southwest Texas Junior College Rodeo in Uvalde. The team took third in bull riding, fifth in calf roping and tenth in barrels and team roping during the event.
The team’s next rodeo will be this weekend at Northeast Texas Community College in Mt. Pleasant.
