November sales tax allocation figures fall from 2011 for Athens

Athens — The City of Athens fell slightly below 2011 figures in its November sales-tax allocation from State Comptroller Susan Combs’ Office.

The county’s second largest municipality, Gun Barrel City was also a bit below the previous year.

Athens will receive a check for $438,255.36, falling .6 percent below November, 2011. The city’s total allocation of $4,324,944.21 is 4.12 percent above 2011 in the year-to-date totals.

Gun Barrel City will receive an allocation of $268,429.48, below the 2011 November check by .42 percent. GBC is a modest 2.46 percent of 2011 for the year.

Combs said Friday that state sales tax revenue in October was $2.03 billion, up 8.2 percent, compared to October, 2011. Combs will send November local sales-tax allocations totaling $611.5 million to cities, counties, transit systems and special-purpose taxing districts, up 5.4 percent, compared to November, 2011.

“The state’s growth in sales tax revenue continued to be led by collections from the oil and natural gas-related sectors,” Combs said. “We also saw strong consumer spending drive gains in retail trade, and the restaurant sector, as well.”

November was a good month for Brownsboro, up by more than 15 percent, and Chandler, up by almost 9 percent.

The following is a list of Henderson County municipalities collecting sales tax, the November, 2012 allocation, followed by the 2011 allocation and the percent of change.

County votes to sell old annex building

Steve Grant Real Estate was chosen to sell the property by a 3-to-2 vote. Precinct 3 Commissioner Ronny Lawrence and Precinct 4 Commissioner Ken Geeslin cast the dissenting votes.

Lusk found guilty
A jury returned a guilty verdict on Tuesday against 36 year-old Danny Ray Lusk for sexual misconduct involving two children.
Henderson County District Attorney Scott McKee said the punishment phase of the trial which began May 14 was set to begin Tuesday in Judge Mark Calhoon’s 3rd District Court.
