Thomas wins Commissioner’s race

Athens — Henderson County voters picked Republican Scotty Thomas as the next  County Commissioner Precinct 1.

Thomas beat Democrat David McClaun  4,795 votes to 1,539. Thomas carried 75.10 percent of the vote to win the commissioners seat. McClaun ended up with 24.3 percent.

Thomas survived a 4-person primary in May to make it to a run-off against Republican Ken Hayes. Thomas out-poled Hayes in the runoff 880 to 780.

After learning of his win, Thomas said “I want to thank all my supporters, family and friends who have stayed with me this past year. After spending some time with my family, I will be ready to take office in January.”
