Malakoff’s annual Cornbread Festival starts cookin’ Saturday

Athens — The 16th Annual Cornbread Festival will be on Saturday, and the weatherman predicts perfect weather. 

The event will kick-off with the 5K Run to the Corn, sponsored by Brookshire’s of Malakoff. 

You can register the morning of at 7:30 a.m.  Vendor booths will open at 9 a.m.  Winners of the 5K Run to the Corn will be announced after 9 a.m. 

The Cedar Lake Home Health & Hospice on Terry Street will begin receiving entries for the Cornbread Cook-Off at 10 a.m.  Judging will be at 11 a.m.  Winners will be announced at noon. 

Once judging is complete, the doors will open for sampling of the different entries, along with a cup of beans.  That afternoon, the fun starts with the corn-eating contest, the corn-toss tournament, the hat-and-pet contest, and the corn relay. 

Be sure and get your chance to win a hand-made wooden picnic table, all the accessories and an umbrella for $10 per chance or six  for $50.   The drawing will be Mother's Day, May 12. 

Come join the group for a day of fun, and some delicious cornbread and beans.
