A 30-year-old Mabank man was arrested Sunday by Henderson County Sheriff’s Office deputies investigating the theft of a vehicle reported earlier that day.
Kristopher Scott Smith remained in the Henderson County jail Monday, held on two charges related to his Sunday arrest and two existing warrants.
The offenses include unlawful use of a motor vehicle, possession of a controlled substance (less than one gram), criminal trespass and theft of property ($50 to $250). Total bond on Smith was set at $12,500.
According to Sheriff Ray Nutt, Dep. Jonathan Halbert and Dep. Joshua Milton were dispatched to a report of a stolen motor vehicle taken from a residence in the Cherokee Shores subdivision in Payne Springs.
The deputies arrived at the location and learned from the homeowner that the stolen vehicle was a 2006 Jeep Liberty. The deputies also learned that Smith was a possible suspect in the case.
Halbert and Milton followed up on the information they gathered, and soon located Smith and the jeep on County Road 2813 in the Eustace area.
Nutt said the deputies found Smith to be in possession of a small amount of methamphetamine. Smith was also wanted on an existing warrant stemming from a February, 2012 theft arrest by Gun Barrel City Police.
Smith was arrested at the scene, and transported to the Henderson County Justice Center.
