Athens —   The Athens Police Department is investigating the disappearance of a 2012-model pickup reported stolen from Elder Chrysler Dodge.

APD Sgt. William Smith was dispatched to the dealership at 1798 E. Tyler St., Wednesday morning, in response to a call reporting the missing vehicle.

According to the dealership, the truck is a white Dodge 3500 Crew Cab with gold paneling. The value of the truck is about $56.300, Elder officials said.

APD Lt. Michael Davis said the dealership determined the truck was missing after an inventory of the vehicles.

“At a car lot where they have so many vehicles, they may not all be on the lot at the same time,” Lt. Michael Davis said. “They move around. One may be in the shop, while another may be out on a test drive.”

Davis said Elder officials have been looking at the video images shot with their surveillance cameras to determine exactly when the vehicle left the lot, and perhaps get a description of who took it.
