ATHENS — On Thursday, April 18, West, Texas changed. The small community was shocked and devastated with a fertilizer plant explosion. Lives were lost, hundreds were injured and homes and buildings were flattened.

But on this same night, heroes were discovered. Acts of bravery, selflessness and courage dominated the news.

In the wake of this disaster the city of West needed help. Several  East Texas communities decided to respond. Trinity Valley Community College (TVCC) of Terrell partnered with Hope Springs Water to help bring assistance. TVCC students and faculty collected money and Hope Springs Water matched the donation and more. The total donation to the city of West was $864.

Let us be proud. Our communities are responsive to needs locally, within our state and around the globe. Your ability to help people in dire need doesn’t have to stop with West. More than 780 million people lack access to clean water worldwide, and our community can make a difference.
