A long-time Athens City Councilman has passed away.
Carroll Gene Maberry, who became a city councilman in 1992, and served for 17-1/2 years in that position died on Oct. 2, in Atlanta, Ga. The cause of death has not been disclosed at press time.
He was known as a dedicated councilman, and business owner for many years.
A memorial will be on Saturday, Oct. 13 at the First Baptist Church in Cross Roads. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m., and a short service will be led by the Rev. Frank Upchurch at 2 p.m.
