Eustace — The Eustace FFA Show teams have been very busy since the beginning of the year with competitions at two major stock shows.
The show team started off at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo with heifers.
Four students participated in excellent style, and were very successful.
Top honors go to Billy Crocker for winning Reserve Calf Champion with his Brahman heifer.
Ethan Grimes placed 4th in class 1, as well with his Brahman heifer. Samantha Crocker took first place with her class 3 winning Beefmaster heifer, and Mallory Mobly placed 7th with her Simbrah heifer.
The next week the show team took market goats to Fort Worth. There were seven students participating.
The class-size average were 68 goats per class. Chad Tindel earned an 8th placing, Mallory Mobly placed 11th, Brady Tindel placed 17th and Serina Kyle placed 20th.
Others who showed well were Kylan Jock, Courtney Calvin and Corey Smitherman.
Brady Tindel, Ethan Grimes and Logan Grimes competed in the Calf Scramble with Brady and Ethan catching, and each receiving a $500 certificate towards a heifer purchase for next year.
The San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo rounded out February for the show teams.
The heifers were the first to compete, having another outstanding show.
Brady Tindel earned high honors with his Reserve Champion Senior Bradford Heifer, Chad Tindel placed 1st with his Bradford, Billy Crocker placed a strong 2nd with his Brahman heifer, Ethan Grimes placed 5th with his Brahman heifer, Mallory Mobly placed 6th with her Simbrah and Samantha Crocker placed 17th with her Beefmaster.
Chad Tindel participated in the market steer show with his angus steer.
San Antonio was ended with a great showing from the Ag Mechanics Show Team consisting of Billy Crocker, Ethan Grimes, Tony Alfaro, Michael James.
T. Alfaro built a 25-foot lowboy gooseneck trailer with B. Tindel and L. Grimes being part of the Showmanship team as well. They were Class 25 Champion with their trailer, and competed for Division Champion.
It is the second year in a row to receive first place in the category. The boys did an outstanding job presenting their project.
To compete the month of February, the Eustace Ag Boosters held their Annual Chili Cook-Off and Auction. It was a great success, thanks to all of the supporters that participated in the event.
The Ag Boosters thank everyone that donated items and/or came out to help make the auction a great fund raiser for the FFA students.
This fundraiser allows the students to compete and participate in the major livestock shows throughout the year.
Top honors were awarded to the Chili Cook-off. Third place went to Mrs. Mike James, 2nd place was awarded to Joyce Byers and the winning pot of chili went to Bill Campbell.
The judges for the competition were Randy Teague of Teague Chevrolet, Susan O’Brien and James Cox, both of Eustace, EISD Director Doug Wendel, EISD teacher Lisa Bynum, EISD counselor Gwen Orr, Athens Brookshire’s Manager Paul Dibari, Athens Daily Review Publisher Lange Svehlak and Richard Sanders, Candidate for Henderson County judge.
