City of Athens well above 2012 in sales tax allocations

Athens — The city of Athens saw a small increase in its sales tax allocations in June and remains well above 2012 for the year to date.

State Comptroller Susan Combs’ office reports that Athens will receive $363,969.06 for the month, an increase of 2.17 percent above last year. For the year to date, Athens has received checks totaling $2,502,482.57, which keeps it 9.88 percent above 2012.

June was also a good month for Chandler, where the $38,421.85 allocation was $15.01 percent ahead of the previous June. Chandler is now 7.38 percent above 2012 in the year-to-date totals.

Gun Barrel City had a sluggish June, less than one percent ahead of last year. The city’s yearly total is 0.54 percent ahead of the 2012 pace.
