MABANK — Van Zandt Precinct 2 Constable C.B. Wiley said his office took a criminal complaint on felony criminal mischief of damage to private property at the Elm Grove Church in the southwest part of Van Zandt County.

Elm Grove Crime Watcher President J.W. Etheridge  made the report to the Van Zandt County Sheriff's Department.

The report said that vandals using a light-colored Chevrolet 4x4 pickup truck did about $300 damage or more  to the parking lot of the church. The parking-lot crime was recorded on the security camera at 11:15 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 14.

Wiley said in a press release:  “This is not the first time we have had these thugs tearing up church property.” He said “This time they did a lot of damage to the grass-root systems, as well as to the parking lot.”

Wiley said damage to the cemetery part of Elm Grove has been reported in the past where tombstones were turned over and flowers scattered. The tombstones were cracked and broken with concrete.

If anyone witnessed any mudding in Van Zandt County road ditches, or may have heard someone bragging about tearing up the church parking lot, contact the Constable for the Van Zandt County Sheriff's office. Call Constable Wiley at 903-880-5955.

Wiley said, “We are aking for help from citizens who may have seen or heard about this crime.”

Crime Watch will pay a reward up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons involved in this vandalism.
