The Athens Review
The Athens Future Business Leaders of America chapter hosted the Area VI Conference and Competition at Athens High School on Saturday, Jan. 18.
The conference was led by FBLA Area VI State VP Melody Avalos of LaPoynor High School, Area President Melissa Miranda of Athens High School with the assistance of their advisers, Athens teacher Debbie Palmer and LaPoynor teacher Donna Crook.
LaPoynor students Tabatha Crook, Area VI Secretary and Kelsey Bristow, Area VI Parliamentarian, along with Peak Preparatory Area VI Reporter/Historian Rigoberto Rayo, assisted with the opening and closing ceremonies.
The Athens FBLA chapter helped their adviser, Debbie Palmer, with the behind-the-scene preparations.
Palmer stated that she and Crook were very grateful for all the advisers and volunteers that gave up their Saturday to come and support the kids. They called upon many local volunteers and even family members to help.
There were 128 students competing from Alto, Athens, Chapel Hill, John Tyler, LaPoynor, Mount Pleasant, North Lamar, Peak Preparatory and first-time participants from the FBLA Virtual Chapter.
About 25 advisers and judges were in attendance for the conference.
Palmer stated it was amazing seeing all of these students dressed in their business attire, networking and finally participating in their competitive events. Whether it was taking an objective test, or presenting their presentations before judges, they all were very busy.
Palmer has been the President of Texas FBLA Board of Directors for the past four years, and is serving as Past President for the BOD and Area VI Board Representative this year.
