Cedar Creek Lake Women’s Club gives back to community

The Cedar Creek Women’s Club held their monthly meeting on Tuesday at Cedar Creek Country Club.

The women made their annual donation to the East Texas Crisis Center in Athens.

Each year the club collects items such as toiletry items, gift sets, diapers, body spray, footes and other items the center gives to the clients they help.

The center is need of sweatpants and sweatshirts, sizes, small, medium, large and extra large.

Crisis Center Executive Director Donna Johnson said “we can alway use sweat suits. We don’t have a lot of storage for other clothing. If we can new sweat suits donated that would be great.” She said “We can always use toiletry items.”

Retired fireman Buck Criner swayed the women with tunes from the 50s and 60s.

Criner from Crandall, Tx.  started singing professionally in 2003 after retiring from the Farmers Branch Fire Department.

His music selection is not classical music, but rather the classic hits from pop to country.

Crine sangs popular songs, such as, Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash and For The Good Times by Ray Price.

Crine also sings songs from Broadway hits as well as gospel singing.

His wife, Gloria, assist Crine on the keyboard and does some backup singing.

He has performed throughout the State of Texas, as far north as Denison, to the east as far as Texarkana and south to San Antonio. He has gone west as far as Andrew, Tx.

He has sung on a number of occasions at the Grapevine Opry, especially for their Sentimental Journey programs which is very popular with the senior citizens.

The women enjoyed his musical talents because of the mixer of music sang. There were songs from all generations.

Criner has produced three CD.

The Cedar Creek Lake Women’s Club is a civic organization designed for women of all ages. They meet on the fourth Tuesday of each month 11am at Cedar Creek Country. Each month has an interesting guest speaker or entertainer.
