Gun Barrel City Police make arrests

Athens — Gun Barrel City Police Officer Zachary Kennedy was dispatched on Tuesday, July 3 to Lifescape Condominiums, 849 S. Gun Barrel Lane, in reference to a suspicious vehicle.

Upon arriving at the location, Kennedy observed three male subjects and one female subject standing around two vans which were the vehicles reported as suspicious.

Two of the male subjects were identified as Crayton Taylor and Michael Shaid.

Gun Barrel City Police Officer Jessie Ison arrived to assist Kennedy. The two officers then observed two more females, one of which was identified as Jamie Shaid.

A computer check revealed Michael and Jamie Shaid to have outstanding warrants out of Henderson County Sheriff's Department. Dep. Greg Hill and Dep. Wayne Nutt of the Henderson County Sheriff's Department took custody of the Shaids.

According to a press release from the Gun Barrel City Police Department, a search of Taylor's vehicle revealed about 10  grams of methamphetamine, several glass smoking pipes, a small amount of marijuana, two digital scales and several clear plastic baggies which are used in the distribution of narcotics.

Taylor was charged with manufacturing and delivering of a controlled substance Penalty Group 1, over four grams, but under 200 grams.

As of press time, Taylor was still in Henderson County Jail under a $20,000 bond. Gun Barrel City Police Department did not release the names of the other subjects.
