Athens — Do you want to be on national television, and help a local school raise money as well?

Here’s your chance. The television series, Friday Night Lights is filming its series finale on July 16 and July 17 at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas.

They need thousands of people to fill that ancient, but classic structure.

It turns out that Ruth Henderson, the theater director at Athens Christian Preparatory Academy, has connections to that show’s officials.

A fee will be paid to the school for each person who registers through the school.

According to a school press release, the fundraiser offers an opportunity for anyone who wants to be on a successful television show.

Participants will also get to meet the cast and sports personalities at the function.

“This is the most amazing opportunity to give  your family an inexpensive vacation. This event affords participants the opportunity to become a part of television history by being in the filming of the series finale of Friday Night Lights,” said Henderson, the school’s new theater instructor.

“We need all sizes, shapes, races and ages,” she said.

Children under 10, must be accompanied and registered by their legal guardians.

The release says NBC will provide the usual network food spread, a meal with drinks and snacks, which will be available at all times.

In addition, if you’re one of the extras,  you’ll be part of a drawing and the raffling off to the crowd valuable and collectible FNL memorabilia.

As a participant, you will also be able to see your favorite TV personalities and Dallas Cowboy football players who are expected to attend.

Those with special medication needs will be allowed to bring in a small cooler, but no alcoholic beverages will be allowed.

“This is one way NBC is giving back to its loyal East Texas FNL fans,” said Henderson. “They could have easily allowed this to be cast out of Dallas, so we at ACPA are very thankful for this opportunity. Now all we need is FNL fans.”

Those interested in participating should register at the Henderson County Performing Arts Theater at 400 Gibson Road in Athens.

Forms can also be downloaded at the school’s website www.acpacademy.org. Click on GOFOOTBALL tab. Forms and instructions will also be available at registration days, which are Tuesday, July 7 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Wednesday, July 8 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Filming dates are July 16 -17, from about 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Henderson said the school has a goal of 500 participants for each day. Everyone is invited.
